Ghesquire’s Balenciaga Retrospective

balenciaga-sp-2000

Nicholas Ghesquire announced his departure from Balenciaga about a month ago and since then all the discussion has been about who will take his place (Alexander Wang). I am more interested in what Ghesquire will do next… His own namesake collection perhaps? Yes, please! Anyway, I went through all of Ghesquire’s Balenciaga collections (except the first few, I couldn’t find them online) and I chose my favorite looks from each. As I went through season by season, I found that his clothes are timeless, but in a more forward thinking way than a classic Chanel suit. If I were Anna Wintour, I would be lining up a Balenciaga retrospective for the Metropolitan Museum of Art circa 2014.

Side note- Much like Ghesquire, Alexander Wang will keep Balenciaga on the forefront of fashion with innovative textiles and the perfect mix of sophistication and edge, I am looking forward to see the outcome.
