When Rei Kawakubo opens a store, she inadvertently defines a neighborhood. The new Dover Street Market location is off the beaten path, at 160 Lexington and 30th street, but it is sure to turn into the East Side’s version of Chelsea in the coming years. The juxtaposition of the classic 1909 building and the quirky designer goods that inhabit it defines Kawakubo’s style.

The seven floors of luxury retail space house famous names like Alaïa and Saint Laurent, while giving the same attention to new talent including Phoebe English and 1205. Of course there is plenty of Comme des Garçons in the mix as well. All good reasons to venture over to 30th and Lex.
