My retail dreams came true when my favorite online shopping destination, La Garçonne, opened their flagship store in New York last month. I finally had a chance to visit the minimalist space, and of course, I fell in love with the ultra white walls and simple decor. In the quiet neighborhood of TriBeca, the large open space is behind a beautiful wood framed entrance with a poplin swaddled dress form in the front window and a tiny etching of La Garçonne on the glass front door, as the only indicators of what’s inside. Overhead, an oversized paper lantern floats above as you browse their namesake collection, La Garçonne Moderne in its entirety. Jewelry and accessories are laid out on custom-made islands with felt wool tops, some encased in antique glass boxes for easy viewing. The back of the store houses the home goods and loungewear, in their truly minimalist aesthetic. While the space doesn’t stock the vast online selection of international designers, there are plenty of specialty pieces to discover that you won’t find anywhere else.
