My Travel Diary: Portland

My-Travel-Diary-Portland-3-de-smet-dossier

Last week we went to visit our East Coast friends who moved to the West Coast. We spent a few days in Portland at the Ace Hotel where breakfast was as good as a Portlandia episode where hilarity ensued. I put together some photos from our trip to bring you my travel diary Portland edition. I am pretty sure we hit almost every neighborhood in search of great boutiques and amazing food. With no sales tax in Portland, shopping was a must. It was great to see a number of small New York designers represented in the Portland shops. Here is a collection of my favorites. If you are planning a Portland trip soon, these are must visit spots!

TO SHOP

Una // With a number of my favorite New York designers, from A Détacher and 6397 to a variety of international brands, this tucked away boutique is worth a visit, even if it’s just for a little inspiration.

Stand Up Comedy // Among the carefully curated selection of  women’s clothing and select home goods, I was excited the see the ethical New York designer, Suzanne Rae at this shop.

Spruce Apothecary // With a large range of non-toxic personal care products and a wall of fragrance to dive into, they have created a minimalist and modern apothecary that makes me never want to step into a Duane Reade again.

TO SHOP

Table of Contents // A fantastic mix of media, home goods along with men’s and women’s fashions from the avant-garde to the essential, this is an all around one stop shop for those who appreciate truly great design. They also have a design studio in the back where they work on projects for hire.

Spruce Apothecary // With a large range of non-toxic personal care products and a wall of fragrance to dive into, they have created a minimalist and modern apothecary that makes me never want to step into a Duane Reade again.

Not pictured, but must-visit shops also include Yo Vintage // Odessa // Frances May + Alder & Co (stay tuned to see what I purchased at these two shops… more on that another day).

TO EAT

Fried Egg I’m In Love // A stationary food truck with breakfast sandwiches including pesto and “sorta-sausage” options for vegetarians like me, I couldn’t have made a better breakfast sandwich if I tried.

Nuvrei // You may have caught a glimpse of my chocolate almond croissant on instagram, but the photos don’t do these pastries justice. From berry croissants and macarons to bagel sandwiches, there’s nothing this pâtisserie and café can’t make without blowing your mind.

Christopher David // A Café, flower shop and home goods store all rolled into one, and all done quite beautifully.

Not pictured, but must-eat spots also include Salt & Straw for artisan ice-cream // Mediterranean Exploration Company for dinner with friends // Pépé La Moko for specialty cocktails and a speakeasy vibe.
