27 Oct Last Minute Halloween Costumes
I’m a little late on the Halloween ideas this year, but I always love to look into my closet for last minute Halloween costumes. I often pull inspiration from fashion, pop-culture and art… here are my ideas this year…
Fashion editors are always a great go-to. This year, thanks to Gaultier’s runway tribute to them, I feel like Grace Coddington would be fun to impersonate for the evening. A little red hairspray, a minimal ensemble and a fluffy stuffed animal cat would do the trick. Personally, I would fashion a clutch out of her book cover GRACE, to easily appease those who will inevitably ask, “Who are you supposed to be?”

As the wife and muse of fashion designer Rick Owens, Michèle Lamy makes for a perfect fashion meets freaky costume. Her gold teeth, black fingers and piled on jewelry are all fitting for a fashionable Halloween. To be super authentic you’d have to be swathed in layers of Rick Owens’ leathers, knits and furs.

black doo rag // black NARS paint // faux fur stole // faux fur bonded biker jacket // Rick Owens rib arm warmers // Rick Owens cashmere and fur coat // pyramid stud bracelet // spiral ring // multi-v ring // ornate midi ring // encrusted bracelet
In the spirit of pop-culture and fashion, I love the idea of being normcore for Halloween. Why? Because only people in New York are talking about it. For those of you who don’t know, this is Vox.com’s definition of normcore: a fashion trend (though some, including Vice, insist it’s more of a joke). The trend has many different looks, but it hinges on one premise: the wearer opts for clothes meant to be average. In order for this idea to be worth of a Halloween costume, it must be exaggerated to the point of irony. Mom jeans are a must, a comfy sneaker or “ugly shoe” of the Birkenstock or Adidas slide variety. In short, looking like you just stepped out of the original 90210 cast.
