13 Nov Best of Basics: Black and White Striped Shirt
For those of us who can’t commit to print, a black and white striped shirt is the answer to our sartorial print prayers. I’ve tried on hundreds of striped tees of the black and white variety, and my two favorites – one short sleeve, one long sleeve- were worth the hunt. First up, the short sleeve tee from 6397. I picked up this black and white striped shirt at The News sample sale yesterday (going on through Saturday, details here).
What makes this tee so special? Let me count the ways… (1) The tiny stripe is a nice alternative to the more traditional bold stripe. (2) A high neckband is a subtle detail, which makes it perfect for layering under things. (3) The close to the body, slightly boxy fit. Secondly, the black and white striped shirt with long sleeves from the Comme des Garçons Play collection. This dons a bolder stripe and a red (color!) embroidered heart patch. Made of 100% cotton, this style gets softer with every wear and has started to form to my body – a trait every best basic should have.
