DIY: Celine Brass and Suede Bracelet

This suede bracelet with bronze ring is from the Céline Spring 2012 collection, but with all the 70’s references for Spring 2015, I thought it was still relevant. Because a lot of you don’t have sewing machines, I thought this would be a great no-sew DIY. It doesn’t take longer than 15 minutes once you have your supplies. Let’s get started with this easy DIY Celine brass and suede bracelet.

1 // Gather your tools: 1 1/4- 1 1/2″ wide heavy suede trim. It’s important to buy heavy suede trim, or you can use the leather tape to double it. Choose a 70’s style color, for more inspiration go here. 2″-2 1/4″ brass ring, the ring should be about 1/2″-3/4″ bigger than your suede trim. Double sided leather tape (I used 1/4″ wide, but any width will work). Metal ruler with cork back so it will stick to the suede trim and allow you to easily cut straight. Rotary cutter (rotary cutters ensure even straight lines when cutting leather and suede, better than scissors). Not pictured, but necessary if you use a rotary cutter, you will need a cutting mat.

This bracelet should fit snuggly around your wrist, take your suede trim and wrap it around your wrist to measure the length, and add about 2 1/2″ extra and cut.

With the extra suede trim, use your ruler and rotary cutter to split the width into two horizontally. The length depends on how wide your brass ring is, you can always trim it shorter. For my 2″ brass ring, I cut the skinny suede trim about 5″ long.

Layout your bracelet as above image. Make a T shape with the skinny suede trim and the wide suede trim. Use the double-sided leather tape to attach the wide suede trim to the skinny piece of suede trim.

Cover the entire small suede trim with double-sided leather tape and fold both sides of the suede trim over the ring to secure the wide suede trim.

Try on the bracelet and mark how much excess you have after the suede trim is woven through the brass ring. I trimmed the tail to 3/4″ past the brass ring. Mark the length and remove the bracelet from your wrist.

Draw the shape of the end on the back side of the suede trim. I chose rounded square corners because they look most like the original Celine bracelet. Use your rotary cutter to trim the end off.

Now, all that is left to do is wear it!
