Recently I’ve had friends say they want to make the move towards clean beauty, but they often find themselves at the local drugstore, be it Duane Reade or Rite Aid, without a clue where to start, and in need of shampoo stat. I get it, ordering your shampoo online isn’t the most convenient form of shopping. So to help those standing in the aisles of Duane Reade right now, here is a roundup of clean personal care products available at your local drugstore. And if you have an extra second, download the Think Dirty and SkinDeep EWG apps that will scan barcodes of personal care and beauty products and give you a rating (clean 0 – 10 dirty). To be clear, I haven’t tried these products, I’ve only done the research to make sure they are clean for you to try. It takes a lot of trial and error to find the perfect products that suit your personal needs but I hope by showing that you can find options at your drugstore proves that it is not an impossible task to make the switch.

A few things to remember, just because one product from a certain brand is clean, doesn’t mean the entire line of products are clean. Ignore the word “natural” it doesn’t mean anything. With all of that being said, if your drugstore has Dr. Bronner’s liquid soap, buy it. You can use it as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste and even to wash your clothes and floors. With a Think Dirty score of 0, you can’t get more pure/non-toxic/clean than that. We prefer the peppermint flavor, it tingles when you use it.
