To Listen // The Museum of Arts and Design honors women through a new exhibit entitled Pathmakers. Featuring artists and designers from the mid-century to today who made pathways for future women designers and artists. Alongside the exhibit they are also hosting a handful of New York based designer discussions featuring Rachel Comey, Starr Hout and Laura Cramer of Apiece Apart, Mona Kowalska of A Détacher and Ryan Roche. Last night Rachel Comey kicked off the series with an informative and inspiring discussion. To Watch // Documentary filmmaker, Alison Chernick took on the challenge of making a film about the ever elusive and always anonymous designer, Martin Margiela. The 12 minute video is made up of old runway footage and current interviews of industry leaders about Margiela. You may even get a quick glimpse of him at the end of the film. The Artist is Absent is available to watch exclusively on Yoox.com.
To Visit // The new Whitney Museum opens to the public today, and its new Meatpacking location feels more fitting for their modern and contemporary American art collection. With impressive architecture by Renzo Piano and new exhibits including Yuji Agematsu: Walk on A, B, C and America is Hard to See opening this week, I couldn’t think of a better time to visit this museum. To Collect // Acne Studios teamed up with famed sculptor, Peter Schlesinger to publish a retrospective book featuring his work and designed a two-part capsule collection inspired by the organic shapes often found in his pottery. In addition to the limited addition book, Acne is also selling a few select sculptures by Schlesinger.
