As a fan of Langdon Graves’ delicate drawings and use of minimal color, I was thrilled to visit her Greenpoint, Brooklyn art studio last week. At first glance, I was drawn to her soft pencil drawings, but I quickly fell in love with her stories of inspiration. Inspired by ancient philosophical quotes, the idea of religion and even interpreting maritime law, it was clear that Langdon’s influences come from personal experiences and her hunger for knowledge. With such powerful influence behind her art, it is refreshing to see that the final product invites interpretation and ignites a quiet dialogue among viewers in a noninvasive, aesthetically pleasing way.
If you are in Miami later this month, be sure to stop by the Art Wynwood fair (February 13-17th) where Langdon Graves’ art will be on display through Victori Contemporary. Also, mark your calendar for the beginning of March when Langdon will release limited-edition prints with Ghostly International.
