For over a month we’ve been getting pears in our CSA fruit share. I’ve never been the biggest fan of this fruit, but hate to waste food, so I thought if I read about the health benefits of pears, it would encourage me to eat them before they expire. Here are some of the health benefits I found most motivating…
-Pears have high vitamin C and vitamin K as well as copper: all antioxidants that protect our cells from damage from free radicals.
-One pear contains up to 11 percent of our daily recommended intake of vitamin C and 9.5 percent of our daily recommended intake of fiber.
-Ripe pears contain a natural sugar alcohol called ‘sorbitol’ or ‘glucitol’, which feeds your hair roots, nourishing the scalp and keeping the hair moisturized leading to healthier hair all around.
-Even though it is slightly sweet, with low glycerin index and high fiber content pears helps control the sugar levels in the blood. Keeping your blood sugar leveled also helps keep your hormones balanced which has multiple health benefits.
-Pears have a high folic acid
-Pears are a natural anti-inflammatory.
And if this doesn’t motivate you to eat pears raw, you can always try out one of these pear-based recipes:
